The Royal Caribbean cruise line is celebrating the fact that the world’s biggest cruise ship is two year old.
The Icon of the Seas’ maiden voyage took place on January 27, 2024, departing from the Port of Miami, Florida, USA.
Over 120,000 families sailed onboard the 5,610-passenger ship during the timeframe.
It’s almost impossible to compare the world’s most famous ship, the 1912 Titanic, (famous for all the wrong reasons) with today’s biggest ever cruise ship: Royal Caribbean’s ‘Icon of the seas’. However, I like to try the impossible.

Titanic was of course an Ocean Liner. Icon is a floating resort. 112 years of maritime history separate them both, plus the fact that icon is almost five times bigger and can carry three times as many passengers than Titanic could, all in more luxury.
Royal Caribbean plans to have at least four Icon-class ships, which will include Icon of the Seas, Star of the Seas (planned to launch in 2025), unnamed third and fourth ships (planned to launch in 2026 and 2027). It also has an option for two additional ships.
