The idea of building a modern working version of a 1912 ocean liner, is both an exciting and a controversial one. Nevertheless, that was Clive Palmer’s vision, which he first announced in 2012.
Palmer initially launched his Titanic II project with a world tour in 2013. He released a collection of renderings and videos at this time. However, in the past decade and a half, Palmer has only given a few press conferences about the project. No new renderings or videos have been forthcoming. In fact, obtaining news about the Titanic II has been like getting blood form a stone. You might be forgiven in thinking that Palmer was designing a top-secret military nuclear weapon, rather than a ship.
We do know that a number of completion dates, set by Palmer, have not been fulfilled. Palmer’s last official statement, was that the ship would enter service in 2027. However, it won’t. No steel has been cut.
This blog features news, official renderings and videos. However, in the absence of regular updates from Palmer, it also features discussion and speculation. I (Malcolm Oliver) have created many videos which contain official dialogue from news text, official ‘Blue Star Line’ media, AI images (when no alternatives are available) and speculation. Therefore, I cannot guarantee the accuracy of everything that it said and viewed here.
There are still many fundamental questions about the project, which are largely unanswered:
Will Palmer ever build his Titanic II?
Can Palmer afford to self-fund the construction of the Titanic II?
When will construction start and when will the ship be delivered?
Which shipyard in the world will be used and where?
Is it really possible to build a “replica” Titanic today?
Will Titanic II really be a “replica” at all?
Will Titanic II be safe?
Isn’t the concept of Titanic II simply disrespectful to the dead and the living relatives?
Will modern passengers appreciate Titanic II’s more basic amenities and some basic accommodation, compared to that offered onboard modern ships?
Will Titanic II be financially successful?
